-Halifax Nova Scotia Temple is the 64th dedicated Temple in operation.

-The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was first organized in Nova Scotia area in 1843. Because of the commitment of the members in that area Halifax and Dartmouth there are generations of Saints in that region.

-Before the Nova Scotia Temple was dedicated getting to a temple was a big sacrifice for the Saints of this region. The Saints from Nova Scotia were in the Cardston Alberta Temple district(2,331 miles away), then the Washington D.C. Temple (789 miles away), then the Toronto Ontario Temple(788 miles away).

-The Halifax Nova Scotia Temple was dedicated on the same day as the Regina Saskatchewan Temple marking the first time that two dedications were held on the same day.

-The land for the Halifax Nova Scotia Temple was bought in the 1980’s when the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was looking for land to build a meeting house, they acquired 6 acres. The land was too big for a church but the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints kept the land and when looking for land for a temple President Hinckley said the extra land would be perfect for the temple!

-The Nova Scotia Area is an area known for lighthouses and the Nova Scotia Temple is a spiritual beacon of light to the area.

-The Nova Scotia Temple area is roughly the size of the western United States!

-The Nova Scotia Temple is 10,700 square feet.

-In Oct. 1997 President Hinckley spoke about building small temples he said ”There are many areas of the Church that are remote, where the membership is small and not likely to grow very much in the near future. Are those who live in these places to be denied forever the blessings of the temple ordinances?. . . We will construct small temples in some of these areas, building with all the facilities to administer all of the ordinances.” This began the building of small temples in areas of strong membership, like the Halifax Nava Scotia area.

-The members of the Nova Scotia Temple area have done an amazing job being a “temple dedicated people.” The Nova Scotia Temple is among the few temples that perform ordinances for names almost exclusively submitted by members in the temple district!
