The Newel K. Whitney Store is very important part of Church History. The Whitney Store was owned by Newel K. Whitney.
The Whitney store is in Kirtland Ohio served as the Church’s Headquarters for a time. Joseph and Emma Smith lived in the Whitney Store and while they were there the store became the headquarters of the Church.
Many events and revelations were recieved while the Prophet lived in the Whitney House. Some of the main events were receiving the revelation on the Word of Wisdom, the School of the Prophets was organized, the First Presidency received the “Keys of the Kingdom”
During one of the meetings of the School of the Prophets God the Father and Jesus Christ appeared to the members of the School!!
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints purchased the Whitney Store in 1984 and President Ezra Taft Benson dedicated the building.
President Ronald Reagan presented the Church with the Historic Preservation Award for restoring the Newel K. Whitney Store in 1984.
