Every corner of Nauvoo has important history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, this hotel site is proof. With the increase of documents we are able to get a more complete look at what Nauvoo was like during the time of Joseph Smith. Joseph Smith was often teaching the people everywhere he went, and one of the most important teaching Joseph gave the world was the sealing of families for eternity, and it is believed this discourse was given at the South East corner of the temple, which would be close to the front of Fosters Hotel.
Dr. Foster owned lots 1, 3, and 4 in block 19, just east of Temple square. The Foster Mammoth Hotel was probably located on lot 3 on the North East corner of Mulholland and Woodruff(Bluff) Street.
The sealing of families for eternity has changed how the world sees their families, past, present and future. Joseph Smith spoke saying "sealing the hearts of the fathers to the children and the hearts of the children to the fathers." In the History of the Church it records that Joseph Smith gave this discourse to "several thousand people" on January 21, 1844.
Imagine standing among the people lucky enough to hear the words of the Lord, through Joseph Smith. For the first time learning there is a way to seal families together forever. It would have been a beautiful experience.
